Learning about and celebrating the differences between ourselves, our families and our cultural backgrounds, helps us to develop self-awareness, understanding and tolerance.  The short films in this programme demonstrate the importance of being true to oneself and appreciating diversity, while exploring the power of friendship and perseverance.

Cultural Celebrations

The films and performance in cultural celebrations 2015 offer students the opportunity to experience the vibrant and unique stories perspectives, and cultural practices of Canada’s aboriginal people.

‘Do not judge a book by its cover.’ This collection of short films explores the impact that quick judgments and stereotypical attitudes can have on individuals who are in some way different from the norm.  The stories told in these films teach the importance of empathy, compassion and understanding, while demonstrating the amazing resilience of their protagonists.

Journey to a New Life

 Refugees – people who are caught between life under difficult conditions in their home countries and the threat of losing their identity in a strange land – live in many countries around the world today. The short films in this programme focus on the complex lives of refugees and immigrants.  We witness, through their eyes, the harsh and unstable situations that they face in their homelands, and watch as hope for a better life sustains them on their journeys to new homes.

These engaging environmental themed films explore the wonders of our amazing planet while encouraging us to think critically about how our actions impact the world. Included this year is a very special film entitled Flight of the Butterflies which will be shown in 3D!
